Find answers to common questions about Life After Me, the secure digital legacy and estate planning platform. Learn how we protect your data, how Trusted Appointees work, pricing details, and more.
Life After Me is a secure online digital legacy management platform where individuals and families can safely store essential documents, passwords, financial details, funeral wishes, and personal memories. All files are encrypted and hosted on Microsoft Azure (CA servers). Trusted Appointees (family, friends, or advisors) can access only what you assign—either during life or after your passing. This ensures your loved ones avoid stress, bureaucracy, or financial loss due to missing documents.
Yes. Security and privacy are our top priorities:
ISO 27001 certified information security management
PIPEDA compliant – you remain the owner of your data at all times
End-to-end encryption during upload, storage, and access
Multi-factor authentication (2FA) via SMS/email/authenticator app

Hosted exclusively on Microsoft Azure CA/US data centers
No one—not even our team—can view your stored documents.
Getting started is simple:
Create an account – sign up with your details and secure login.
Upload documents – drag & drop files, photos, videos, or notes into pre-set folders.

Yes. Life After Me is a Dutch company and all data is hosted on Microsoft Azure CA/US servers. This means your files are covered by PIPEDA data protection laws. You remain the owner of your data, and you can delete your account and all files at any time.
Technically yes, but we don’t recommend it. Each account is designed for one individual, since:
Mixing files can create confusion.
2FA and login details become complicated.
Private messages meant for one person could be exposed to another.
Best practice: each partner has their own account, with mutual Trusted Appointee access.
Forgot password: Use the “Forgot password” link, and reset it via email.
Forgot username: Your username is always your registered email address.
For extra protection, Life After Me uses multi-factor authentication (2FA) at every login.
Yes. You remain in control:
Delete documents: Select and remove individual or multiple files.
Delete account: From your profile, permanently erase your account and all stored data. Billing stops at the end of your subscription cycle.
Once deleted, files cannot be recovered.
Only you. Passwords are encrypted end-to-end and even Life After Me staff cannot read them. You may, however, grant a Trusted Appointee access so they can close or manage your accounts after your death (e.g., social media, online banking, email).
Experts are professionals (lawyers, financial planners, notaries, accountants) you invite to your account. They can upload documents directly to specific folders, ensuring important files are always up to date.
Limit: up to 3 Experts.
Benefit: you build a joint dossier with your advisor, improving both your security and the quality of advice you receive.
No. To ensure security and consistency for Trusted Appointees, all users work with the same pre-set folder structure. This avoids confusion and guarantees safe, predictable access. However, you can upload any file type and use descriptions and notes for personalization.
Life After Me is officially ISO 27001 certified — the international gold standard for information security management. This proves we use strict protocols for risk management, encryption, and continuous monitoring.
Additionally:
PIPEDA compliant (privacy law)
Extended Validation SSL certificate (green padlock in browser)
Regular penetration testing by ethical hackers
Microsoft Azure hosting with CA/US-based servers
Together, these certifications confirm our platform is independently verified and trusted for your most sensitive data.
To protect your legacy, access is only given after:
A Trusted Appointee or Expert uploads a valid death certificate.
Our support team verifies the document with the relevant authority (e.g., CA municipalities).
Once validated, only the files marked as “after death” become visible.
This ensures no one gains access prematurely or without legal proof.
Your files are secured by multiple layers:
End-to-end encryption during upload and storage.
Your password creates the encryption key, making files unreadable without it.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) with SMS, email, or authenticator app.
Microsoft Azure Cloud with CA-based servers and state-of-the-art security.
Even Life After Me staff cannot access your documents — only you and your chosen appointees can.
From your profile, you can permanently delete your account at any time. This will:
Erase all files, documents, and wishes from our system.
Stop billing at the end of your subscription period.
Remove all appointee access.
Once deleted, recovery is impossible — giving you complete control over your data.
